Books on the Move is a unique project in dialogue with multiple practices between writing and movement. It has been making its way for the last 17 years, from Berlin to Bordeaux, infused by the energy of its two co-founders (Agnès Benoit and Stéphanie Pichon), the involvement of many volunteers, the commitment of our partners and friends in the performing arts, a large number of customers throughout the world, and the support from arts organisations.

What’s going on?  

The end of the year is looking difficult for our small organisation. It seems that we will be unable to absorb the expected deficit (€6,000) given our low financial resources. 

We have been very hesitant to ask for your help, aware that Books on the Move is far from being the only organisation in need of support today. But we felt it was important to be transparent and let you know about our situation at a time when our survival is at risk, just as it is important to still believe in the spirit of solidarity.

We have chosen not to use crowdfunding platforms, but we will provide you with detailed feedback on this call for support, which will run until the end of January 2026.

Supporting what inspires us

Our wish to carry on this journey remains unchanged so that to preserve bonds woven over the years, our unique book collection, and these dedicated precious moments bringing to life an ever richer and more abundant literature in dance. 

We therefore need this financial boost to enable us to imagine new ways to tackle the years ahead, while continuing to sustain everything we are already doing: 

• The traveling bookstore
• Encounters with artists and authors in the field of choreography
• A writing residency
• School projects
• Outreach workshops
• Training courses
• Guidance on editorial projects
• And all our custom-made projects we imagine with our partners, during our travels throughout France and other European countries.

Books on the Move grows from its many travels each year, in France and Europe—around thirty per year—and by the always enriching encounters it makes along the way.
