the Song of the Meteors – Performance

Tuesday November 25th at 7p.m.
Performance by Maïte Álvarez
in collaboration with Föhn

Night falls, filled with the song of insects.
It invites us to enter a space-time that seems stretched out, eternal, denser.
It calls for a time of inwardness, a time of meteors. Eyes are closing, an intra-choreographic journey begins here.
It is about an epic tale that unfolds in the form of a hypnotic experience, both individual and collective.

How to transform what goes through us into a vital force? — emotions, memories, dreams, losses —
With her new multidisciplinary project, the Song of the Meteors, moving between performance and publishing, Maïte Álvarez, artist-researcher based in Brussels, imagines a practice she calls « body agriculture », a process by which song becomes the agricultural agent of our body just like earth and compost.
Between incantation and lamentation, the Song of the Meteors summons imaginary landscapes where memory and intuition open up pathways to other forms of being and inhabiting the world.

Trained in performance, dance and graphic design, Maïte Álvarez explores choreography as a space for writing between bodies, via immersive and atmospheric installations that link movement, voice and writing to an ecopoetics of bodies and imaginations. A cross-disciplinary practice combining artistic research with somatic and energetic practices. Maite Álvarez has also published two books: Atlas de nuit, D’andé, and a card game: Paraboles.

This performance is organized in collaboration with Föhn, a curatorial and critical platform based in Bordeaux. Föhn invited Books on the Move to host an artist as part of its Présence cycle.
